Landen, the head lifeguard at MVP Holland, is now in his fourth season with the club — a role he pursued because of the joyful childhood memories he made at the very same pool.

More than just keeping swimmers safe, Landen is passionate about creating a sense of belonging at the outdoor pool.

“I love my job because I get to build community and invest in getting to know every member who walks through the gate,” he said. “People truly appreciate friendly conversation, and I love knowing I can brighten someone’s day. I also take pride in creating a culture where both members and staff feel welcomed and valued.”

Landen also brings that same care to his team. As the head lifeguard, he makes it a priority to recognize his fellow lifeguards’ individual strengths.

“A big goal of mine this summer has been helping my team use their strengths to shine,” he said. “I take immense pride in fostering that kind of atmosphere.”

That atmosphere is felt throughout MVP Holland. Landen is greeted each day by smiling teammates and enthusiastic kids.

“Their energy is contagious. I’m constantly smiling,” he said.

His favorite memory? Grandparents Day — a bustling afternoon with multiple generations laughing, swimming and connecting.

“I’ve never seen the pool that busy,” he said. “It was amazing to see so many families share such a fun experience together.”

For Landen, this deep sense of connection is what sets MVP Holland apart. The outdoor pool has become more than a place to swim — it’s a vibrant third space where families gather, friendships grow, and community thrives.
