Kelly Turned Intimidation into Empowerment and Found a Fitness Family Along the Way
Meet Kelly
Finding Her Fit

When Kelly moved to Grand Rapids, she was searching for more than just a new routine—she was looking for a reset. Exercise had always felt daunting. Past gym experiences left her feeling anxious and overwhelmed. She wanted a place where fitness felt approachable, with guidance and encouragement built in.
She found it at MVP Sportsplex when she began working in the Kid’s Stuff area. What she didn’t expect was to also find her fitness family through her job. The more she familiarized herself with MVP’s offerings, she knew she had found something special.
“I was so excited for the amenities, classes, pools and the friendships I knew I’d build,” Kelly said.
What drew her in wasn’t just the variety of cardio machines or strength-training equipment—it was the environment. The group fitness classes, indoor and outdoor pools, and welcoming spaces made it easy to explore her fitness journey without fear or pressure.
Kelly began with MVP’s TORCH group training classes. The structure and support gave her a strong foundation and the confidence she had always lacked in a fitness setting.
“It taught me how to work out,” she said. “The group format made it feel less intimidating and way more fun.”
Soon, her visits to the gym became routine—and something she genuinely looked forward to. Building on her momentum, Kelly started working with a personal trainer, Keegan, to deepen her progress.
“Training with Keegan gave me the tools and motivation to keep going,” she said. “Even on the days I don’t have a session, I know how to get a great workout in on my own.”
Since beginning her wellness journey at MVP, Kelly has lost more than 75 pounds. But it’s not just the number on the scale that changed.
“I feel amazing,” she said. “I have more energy, more confidence, and a more positive outlook.”
Her renewed energy shows up in her everyday life—spending time outdoors, enjoying walks with her dog, and simply feeling good throughout the day.
One of the biggest surprises for Kelly? The support.
“Every day, someone tells me I look great or asks what I’ve been doing,” she said. “That encouragement means everything.”
It’s that sense of community—from friendly check-ins to high-fives in class—that keeps her coming back. What once felt intimidating now feels like home.
After trying multiple gyms over the years, Kelly finally found one that fit.
“I’ve been a member of plenty of gyms, but none of them had what MVP offers.”
Today, MVP is more than a gym for Kelly—it’s a consistent, energizing part of her life, both physically and emotionally. The amenities, the people and the supportive atmosphere have helped her not only transform her body, but her mindset, too.
