“Being athletic has always been important to me. I was active in high school sports and when I became an adult it was hard finding an exercise regimen that gave me the same activity level.
When I joined MVP Metro Club I was out of shape. A coworker suggested I check out MVP’s group ex classes. I began with Group Power with Kari and was hooked! The structure was exactly what I was missing. The workout is planned for you and all you have to do is show up and work your butt off. Before long I managed to work every class into my schedule. The variety keeps me from getting bored and each helped me improve my fitness in different ways.
A year and a half ago I was finishing my Master’s and fell off the exercise wagon. I was out of shape and back to square one but noticed MVP had a new Run Strong class. I’ve always wanted to run a 5k but could never get past 2 ½ miles. I signed up with the Fifth Third 5k as my goal. The classes put together by Adam forced me to run at least twice a week and I began to see my speed and stamina improve. I added back in the group classes that I loved so much to cross train. After four months I completed the Fifth Third 10k in just under 54 minutes (halfway through my training I realized that I could run a greater distance). At that point I realized I was almost half the distance of a half marathon, so I decided to train for the Grand Rapids Half Marathon, which I completed last October. In May I did the Fifth Third 25k.
What I like about road races is there’s always a new goal to work towards. I’m currently training for my first marathon, in Chicago this October. I also plan on completing my first triathlon this year and I don’t plan on slowing down anytime soon!
I’m not only in the best shape of my life, but have also met some amazing people at MVP and through running. When you find people who have the same interests and goals it’s much easier to stay motivated. Working out and being active has improved every aspect of my life!”
