MVP Sports Clubs introduces USTA QuickStart Tennis! QuickStart Tennis is an exciting new play format for learning tennis, designed to bring kids into the game by utilizing specialized equipment, shorter court dimensions and modified scoring, all tailored to age and size.

Big Shots- Ages 4-5

This class is designed to introduce the game of tennis to young children. Fun is a priority and will be achieved through positive reinforcement during games and instructional drills. Children will learn basic tennis strokes, hand-eye coordination, and other athletic skills.

QuickStart 1 - Ages 5-6

The second level is designed to introduce the game of tennis and skills needed to play. Working on skills with a partner and competing through skill based tasks.

Size of the court: 36’ Mini court
Type of Ball: Foam balls
Children will develop:

  • controlled movement movements including running, jumping and hopping
  • different throwing and catching patterns with various balls
  • using basic stokes with simple grips and swing shapes
  • building a rally over a short distance with a partner
  • starting a point using a simple underarm or overhead serve
  • understanding game concepts like in and out and how to score

QuickStart 2 - Ages 7-8

Children at this level will have an understanding of the game and will start to compete, both on a team and in some simple individual events.

Size of the court: 36’ Mini court
Type of Ball: Foam balls and transition balls
Children will develop:

  • coordinated movements in different directions
  • better body control, posture and balance
  • longer stroke shapes including consistent contact point
  • rallying from the baseline of the 36’ court and directing the ball
  • coordinated use of the arms on serve using small action
  • keeping score and understanding the rules of the game

QuickStart 3 - Ages 9-10

Players will be making the transition from the 36’ court to the 60’ court. Some skills will be repeated from the previous levels and players will compete in team events and individual challenges.

Size of the court: 60’ mid-court
Type of Ball: Foam balls and transition balls
Children will develop:

  • moving quickly and efficiently with good balance
  • coordinated rotations and use of both arm together
  • developing effective swing shapes including the use of spin
  • staring to rally from 60’ baseline including cross court
  • serving in balance with a consistent action and higher contact point
  • keeping in short singles matches and team event.

Middle School Tennis - Grades 6-8

The main goal of this class is to teach basic tennis principles to middle and high school kids who have little experience with instructional tennis.

CT4Kids (Cardio Tennis for Kids)- Ages 7-10

Cardio Tennis is now being offered to kids. This program will be centered around active tennis drills where kids will hit tons of balls in creative drill formats loaded with instruction to the beat of fun and upbeat music.

Youth Private Lessons - Ages 3+

Want to improve your game? The Tennis Department offers private lessons with all of our qualified coaches. Private lessons may be purchased at the service desk. For information on private lesson rates and coach availability, please call the Tennis Team Leader at 616-784-8760.

The MVP Tennis Pro Staff would like to introduce Video Analysis for Private Tennis Lessons. Each lesson will feature a stroke by stroke technical breakdown of the individual. See your game through the eyes of the pro! Call 616-784-8760 for more information.

This program is designed for young players beginning to play in USTA junior tournaments. The introduction of proper “tennis effort” will be established with emphasis on a solid foundation of rallying skills resulting in no weaknesses on either side. The introduction of the flat and slice service motion will be emphasized.

MVP Tour

Participation based on ability and experience and subject to Pro’s approval
The Tour Program is designed for players with solid rallying skills so that a foundation of adaptation may be introduced. The introduction of the kick, slice and power serve will be emphasized. Athletes will be asked to develop one or two skills at an exceptional level to set the stage for Elite training.

MVP Elite
 

The Elite Program is designed for the highest level tournament player. Athletes will be trained on three phases of rallying (high tempo), adaptation and attacking. Each player will train to be fundamentally sound, tactically smart, physically fit, and mentally tough.
